Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has held talks with President William Ruto in Nairobi on Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will co-host with Tanzania and Uganda.
CAF reported the meeting on Saturday, September 19. Motsepe was accompanied by CAF acting General Secretary Samson Adamu and CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed also attended.
A shared commitment
According to CAF, President Ruto thanked Motsepe for his commitment to African football and spoke of Kenya’s determination to make the tournament, branded AFCON PAMOJA 2027, a major success. Motsepe in turn thanked the President for his support, and the two discussed a range of matters related to the preparations.
Venue visits
During his visit, Motsepe toured the newly built Talanta Sports Stadium and was pleased with the progress made, CAF said. He also visited Kasarani Stadium, where he gave feedback on the work still needed before the tournament.
The 2027 finals will be the first Africa Cup of Nations hosted jointly by three East African countries. With the region’s preparations under close watch, Kenya’s stadiums and supporting infrastructure will remain in focus as the countdown continues.
