Eliud Kipchoge won the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday, October 11, clocking 2 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds to break the race record by two seconds and claim his first marathon victory in three years.
The two-time Olympic champion, now 41, pulled clear of Australia’s Thomas Do Canto, who finished second in 2:10:35. Reece Edwards, also of Australia, was third in 2:14:33. New Zealand’s Camille French won the women’s race in 2:28:25.
I believe that my body is still peaking – still able to compete with the next generation.

A different kind of tour
The course took runners partly along the Albert Park Formula One circuit before finishing inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Melbourne was the third stop on Kipchoge’s world tour, after races in South Africa and Brazil. He plans to run marathons on all seven continents, including Antarctica, over two years to raise funds for causes he supports.
It was his first marathon win since Berlin in 2023. Kipchoge said he enjoyed the crowds along the route, who cheered his name throughout the race.
The result capped a strong weekend for Kenyan distance running, with Amos Kipruto winning the Chicago Marathon on the same day.
