In 277 days on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, Kenyans are set to head to the polls to pick their new leaders for the posts of Members of County Assembly, Women Representatives, Members of Parliament, Governors, Senators and President.
In the lead up to the election, it is the presidential election that continues to dominate scenes online and offline, pitting a myriad of opposition allied politicians against the incumbent, United Democratic Alliance’s President William Ruto.
Former president, LSK
On November 6, 2026, Senior Counsel Nelson Havi, who served as the 49th President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) between 2020 and 2022, ignited one of the most heated ongoing conversations regarding Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions regarding who would best back up his bid as his deputy.
“This, for me is the working formula for change of Government. Let Edwin Sifuna run for President and be deputized by Irungu Kangata or John Methu…” said Mr Havi in part.\
His sentiments elicited a flood of suggestions over who would best deputize the Senator who continues riding a wave of citizen goodwill based on his unofficial Linda Mwananchi manifesto in which he assures Kenyans he would reset the country’s politics and policies using the Kenyan Constitution as one of his key pillars.

“Working Formula: Edwin Sifuna for President, Deputy: John Methu. Faya, si faya! 🔥🔥🔥, ” said Albert Obuya.
“Edwin Watenya Sifuna and Irungu Kang’ata… Direct ticket to change,” added Robert Mbai.
“Irungu kangata it is!!” insisted Martin Longeli.
“What do you mean by John Methu? Ata afadhali kindiki sasa that boy is still maturing,” quipped Algorith.
“I would gladly vote for Edwin Sifuna and Irungu Kangata,” said Elijah Mwalukuk.
“Sifuna is good for presidency… for the DP someone from Coast region,” opined Againa Kims.
“Me think that gachagua and kalonzo be nominated and lead troops in both houses,” said Mubaiawaikwa.
“President-HE Edwin Sifuna DP-KALONZO Mosyoka,” said Ghiram.
Sifuna Strongholds
As one ‘member’ among handfuls of united opposition leaders allied against President Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza regime, Senator Sifuna’s tours across the country to rally and consolidate support for his candidature- both among voters and political allies- leaves much to be seen over who will ultimately lead the united opposition vehicle for presidency in 2027.
The top pick for his deputy would be intended to back up his support base in which opinion polls published in 2026 listed Western Kenya, Nairobi, Coast and Nyanza regions as his top strongholds.
Muranga County Governor Irungu Kangata and Nyandarua Senatori John Methu- also the Secretary General of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), come from Mount Kenya region which was opined to be Sifuna’s fifth stronghold following his recent political meet ups and conversations with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Mr Gachagua is the party leader of DCP which was fully registered in February 2025, and is already dominating Mount Kenya regions over past established political parties including Jubilee Party.
