Sub County police Commander from Endebess has spend two hours in Orone dam retrieving the body of a 17year old boy.
Amos Barasa Wanjala, a 17-year-old student at Mubere Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County is said to have drowned while they were on their way home from church on Sunday when he decided to go swimming in the Orone area, which is close to the Kitale-Endebess Suam road building site.
Barasa who was in a company of his two classmates friends aged 10 and 11 years respectively decided to show off their swimming prowess before the water currency overwhelmed him and drowned.
When Wanjala’s classmates realised their friend was drowning, they frantically sought assistance to nearby residents who rushed to the scene.
According to the area residents they alleged that the abandoned dam is roughly 120 feet wide and 12 feet deep and was left exposed after a road construction company removed murram from it.
After calling the police Officers,a man named Salesioh Murithi who us also a sub county police Officer arrived at the scene and discover that firefighters and a crowd had gathered around the pit.
Muriithi, who was deeply shaken by the event, stripped off his police uniform and dive in the alleged abandoned dam while dressed with only a vest and black shorts. He looked for the body for more than two hours before retrival.

Salesioh Murithi, the Endebess Sub County Police Commander, showed off his swimming prowess when he plunged into an abandoned dam to retrieve the body.
Murithi, a native of Embu, will retire in two years.
While addressing Citizen digital reporter he said”I learned swimming at the age of 10 in the Rupingazi, Kapingazi, and Ena rivers,”.
Muriithi’s bravery was commended by residents among them Raphael Eyanai, who described it as an extraordinary achievement.
The area resident Commented saying “It has taken days, weeks, and even months to retrieve bodies in similar situations in the past,” said Eyanai.
Other witnesses urged the county administration to get in touch with Murithi, who has a great deal of swimming experience, to instruct firefighters and divers in corpse retrieval and water rescue methods.
“Muriithi’s selfless act serves as a testament to the dedication and courage of law enforcement officers who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve and protect their communities,” Eyanai stated.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Kitale Referral Morgue.
