A survivor has shed light on the final moments leading up to the tragic accident that claimed 12 lives at the infamous Nithi Bridge on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Emily Nzasu, who lived through the horrific ordeal, revealed that the victims were all members of Vision Group, a close-knit self-help group.
The group had embarked on a journey from Kajiado to Meru, where they visited the parents of one of their members as part of their regular group activities.

According to Emily, the ceremony was a joyous occasion, filled with blessings and camaraderie.
But the happiness quickly turned into despair as the group made their way back home.
Emily recounted the terrifying moments before the accident. “Our matatu was the first one to veer off somehow, but the driver managed to regain control and steer it back on track.
Unfortunately, the ten-seater behind us, carrying ten adults and two children, wasn’t so lucky,” she narrated, her voice tinged with sorrow.
The deadly crash occurred when the second vehicle lost control and veered off the treacherous Nithi Bridge, plunging into the depths below.

Emily and her fellow passengers immediately stopped their matatu and rushed to the scene, desperate to save their friends.
But their efforts were in vain, as they awaited the arrival of police and firefighters who worked tirelessly to rescue survivors from the wreckage.

The day was marred by further tragedy, as another accident occurred at the same notorious blackspot on Nithi Bridge.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) issued a statement, reporting two separate crashes involving public service vehicles at Nithi Bridge and the nearby Murram area.
