Sorrow has engulfed the community of Wiitu along the Kitui-Kibwezi road after a tragic accident claimed the lives of six schoolchildren.
The devastating incident occurred on Friday morning as the children were crossing the road near Wiitu shopping centre.
According to Ikitha Deputy County Commissioner Vincent Loctary Lomachary, the victims included three primary school pupils and three secondary school students, all of whom were struck by a speeding Probox vehicle.

Witnesses report that the children were on their way to school when the driver, speeding down the road, failed to stop and fatally hit them.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving behind a trail of destruction and sorrow.
Hours later, he surrendered to authorities at Mutomo Police Station, where he was arrested, and his vehicle was impounded.
