Nyanumba was adamant that there were no prior signs indicating that Cheptoo was struggling with mental health issues, adding that the tragedy had caught the institution completely off guard.
The police and local authorities have now opened investigations to uncover what might have driven the 17-year-old to take such a devastating step.
Preliminary reports from Nyamira Deputy County Commissioner, Florence Obunga, have described the deceased as an introverted individual who often kept her thoughts and feelings to herself.
