Seven people were killed and a lorry they were using was set ablaze by gunmen in Elle Dimtu, Moyale, Marsabit County.
The area, situated along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, was the scene of this deadly ambush which also left two others injured.
Eastern Regional Police Commander Charles Naibei stated that the motive behind the attack is still unclear.
The victims, who were transporting food from the border town, were ambushed by the attackers who shot at the vehicle before igniting it.
Two survivors managed to escape and hide in nearby thickets.
Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatanni has called for immediate action, attributing the attack to a militia from a neighboring country and urging the Interior CS to deploy additional security forces to protect the border communities.

This attack follows a similar one on August 1, where a police officer was killed and three others injured in a checkpoint assault in Moyale.
The highway connecting Moyale to Marsabit is a known route for smugglers and terrorists, making it a focal point for security concerns.
Police are intensifying their operations to combat drug and human trafficking as well as terrorism in the region.
