In a tragic incident on Saturday, June 22, a truck carrying building blocks lost control and plowed into pedestrians in Timau town, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals and injuring several others.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on the Meru-Nyanyuki Highway, according to Buuri sub-county police commander Laura Imbacha.
Commander Imbacha confirmed that the accident was fatal, with seven people losing their lives at the scene. Among the deceased was a motorcyclist who was struck by the truck.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck veered off course, hitting pedestrians and causing building blocks to fly into the air, which further contributed to the fatalities.

“The driver lost control of the truck, which then swerved and struck pedestrians before landing in a ditch. The airborne building blocks hit several pedestrians, resulting in immediate fatalities,” Imbacha said, as reported by NTV.
The tragic scene prompted immediate action from local residents and good Samaritans, who rushed the injured to medical facilities in Timau and Nyanyuki towns.

The exact number of injured persons and their conditions have not been fully disclosed as authorities continue their investigations.
“We have commenced investigations into the incident. More information about the injured and the identities of the deceased will be released after notifying their relatives,” Imbacha added.
