Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu has declared her unwavering backing for Raila Odinga’s bid to chair the African Union Commission (AUC).
During an official launch event at Kenya’s State House on August 27, 2024, Suluhu praised Raila’s deep commitment to pan-Africanism, describing him as a seasoned statesman with a profound understanding of Africa’s developmental needs.
“Back in Tanzania, I am fondly referred to as ‘Mama,’ so it’s my pleasure to support the great statesman of Kenya, fondly referred to as Baba in his bid for AUC chairperson. He fits the bill,” she remarked, her words resonating with the gravity of the occasion.
Her endorsement was a reflection of the close ties between the two East African nations and their shared vision for Africa’s future.
