His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima, the monarchs of Netherlands are set to arrive in Kenya for a state visit beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 to Thursday, March 20, 2025.
According to their programme, they will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Caspar Veldkamp, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Reinette Klever and the Minister of Defence, Ruben Brekelmans.
Nairobi Post now maps out their activities for Kenyans keen on knowing how the monarch’s movements will affect their movements in terms of traffic and area restrictions.
On Tuesday, the monarchs will be at State House Nairobi where there will be a welcome ceremony and a private meeting will be held before a short statement to the media is issued. They will then later lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and later host a dialogue meeting with Kenya’s youth.
They will then later plant a tree in a Nairobi forest and meet with the local community before participating in a business forum and later be hosted for a state banquet by President William Ruto.
On Wednesday, they will then head to the Inland Container Depot, visit a Dutch horticultural business, participate in a thematic session on climate change and later host a cultural programme as a token of appreciation for Kenya’s hospitality.
On Thursday, the monarchs will visit the Supreme Court, tour the Judiciary Museum, visit the Peace Support Training Center that trains military personnel from several African countries to support various United Nation missions in Africa and later host a reception for the Dutch community living in Kenya.
This means that from the Netherland’s monarchs’ visit, there will be heavy disruption of traffic from Mombasa Road to State House, various roads within the Central Business District in Nairobi, Nairobi to Naviasha via Mai Mahiu as his entourage will use the road for the day, and further city movements before their depature.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the King of Lesotho, His Majesty King Letsie III, is also expected in Kenya for an official visit. On Wednesday, He will visit factories near Clay Works in Ruiru and a school in Ruiru town. Thus, traffic on the Thika Superhighway will be disrupted and movements within Ruiru town. He will depart on Thursday.
