In a bid to address recent tensions between security forces, Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) officers stationed at Mtongwe Kenya Naval Base convened a reconciliation meeting with the Likoni sub-county security committee.
Led by Base Commander Lt. Col. Mutabari, the soldiers engaged with DCC Likoni Mwangi Wambugu, Likoni Sub-county police commander Geoffrey Ruheni, KPA security, and ferry operations manager to deliberate on mutual respect, multi-agency cooperation, and open communication channels.
The meeting comes on the heels of escalating tensions culminating in clashes between KDF soldiers and police officers.
Just days prior, reports surfaced of altercations between the two forces in Kambe Ribe and Likoni, raising concerns over inter-agency coordination and public safety.
At Likoni ferry, witnesses described a scene of chaos as a KDF military vehicle blocked the exit lane, prompting officers and security guards to intervene.

These incidents echoed a previous clash in Lodwar, where KDF servicemen attempted to free colleagues arrested for disarming a police officer, underscoring a pattern of inter-agency friction.
The reconciliation meeting sought to address these grievances and prevent future confrontations.
Participants resolved to ensure mutual respect, enhance multi-agency cooperation, and establish effective communication channels to mitigate conflicts and uphold public safety.
Lt. Col. Mutabari emphasized the importance of collaboration between security forces, acknowledging the role each agency plays in maintaining law and order.
