- Kenyan President William Ruto has been ranked the second most corrupt leader globally by OCCRP
- Scandals like the failed Adani airport deal and a botched cooking oil program exposed his systemic greed and favoritism
- The self-styled “hustler” president, who has previously denied allegations of corruption, came second after Syria’s Bashar Al-Assad
Kenyan President William Ruto has been ranked the second most corrupt leader globally, trailing only Syria’s ousted President Bashar al-Assad, according to the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
The explosive report revealed that Ruto garnered the highest number of nominations—over 40,000—by frustrated Kenyans decrying rampant corruption, economic mismanagement, and political oppression.
The revelation has intensified scrutiny of his administration, already plagued by scandals and public dissent.

Adding fuel to the fire were two high-profile scandals: the attempted privatization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport through a flawed deal with India’s Adani Group, and a botched cooking oil price stabilization program, both of which revealed systemic corruption and favoritism.
These incidents, coupled with politically motivated appointments and a weakened judiciary, have left Kenyans increasingly cynical about the country’s leadership.
