Peter Kengere, a sailor from Nairobi, Kenya, stands on the brink of a significant milestone: graduation from the U.S. Navy’s Officer Candidate School (OCS) on April 19, 2024.
Kengere’s journey began 16 years ago with a single goal in mind—to pursue educational opportunities and secure a brighter future for himself and his family.

“I joined the Navy for the educational opportunities,” Kengere explained. “It was a chance to complete my schooling, gain citizenship, and provide stability for my loved ones.”
Drawing on the values instilled in him during his upbringing in Nairobi, Kengere found his footing in the Navy, embracing qualities of respect, teamwork, and self-improvement.
“I learned to respect everyone, find the good when working with others, always seek self-improvement, and lend a helping hand whenever possible,” he reflected.

Before his journey to OCS, Kengere served as an enlisted chief petty officer, acquiring invaluable experience along the way.
Now, on the eve of graduation, he prepares to take on a new role as a supply officer, armed with a wealth of knowledge and a steadfast resolve.
“Graduating from the academy is a dream come true,” Kengere remarked with gratitude. “I owe much to the mentors who guided and corrected me throughout my journey.”
