A nurse has been handed a 12-month suspension after admitting to a deeply troubling and unethical relationship with a vulnerable mental health patient under her care.
Jessica Robinson, formerly employed at Cygnet Hospital Wyke in Bradford, struck up a social media conversation with the 34-year-old patient in 2022, which quickly escalated into a four-month relationship, despite the man’s extremely vulnerable mental state.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council found her actions to be a serious lapse in professional judgment, with the patient’s distress and potential harm underscoring the severity of the breach.

Robinson, who had left the nursing profession by March 2022, but continued to work with vulnerable people in drug and alcohol recovery, was found to have contacted the patient outside of her professional capacity, with no clinical reason for the interaction.

While the nurse expressed remorse and claimed to have gained insight into her actions, the panel deemed her reflection insufficient, with concerns that similar conduct could occur again without further remediation.
