A Mpesa agent was on Thursday attacked and robbed of Sh100,000 in Rongo Town, Migori County.
According to the woman, she was headed home when a gang on a motorbike followed her, hit her before making away with the money. Police reports indicate that this happened at Kasere Trading Center.
The woman only identified as Faith, had already closed her shop and was heading home when the incident took place.
On arrival at Kasere Market, the woman and the rider were attacked by two men. One of the assailants was armed with a pistol, police said.
In her statement to the police, she said that she had noticed a motorbike making rounds near her Mpesa shop. The motorbike had two riders on board and she believes they might be the people who stole from ger.
The rider sustained serious injuries in the chest while the woman complained of pain in her head.
The robbers then grabbed the woman’s bag, which contained a Mpesa phone, three bank transaction machines, and Sh100,000, before fleeing in a waiting car to Homabay direction.
Members of the public rushed the duo to Venesa Medical Center but they were later referred to Kisii Level Six Hospital for specialized treatment.
Police in Migori have kicked off a manhunt for the suspects who are believed to be either in Homa Bay or Migori County.
