A calm Sunday evening quickly spiraled into chaos for lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso when his convoy was struck in a terrifying accident in Embu County.
The incident, which occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. on September 22, 2024, left onlookers gasping as the renowned civic leader’s Toyota TX Prado swerved violently off the road after a side collision with a speeding car.
For a few harrowing moments, it seemed like tragedy had claimed another victim on Kenya’s dangerous roads.
Taking to his X handle, Morara broke the tension-filled news: “I’ve been involved in a road accident – a side collision in Kivwe, Embu County.”
The message left his followers in shock, as many feared for his safety.

The circumstances around the accident were nerve-wracking — a drunk driver had clipped the side of Morara’s vehicle at high speed, sending it skidding dangerously.
Though the tires of his Prado all burst from the force of the crash and the airbags deployed in a violent explosion, Morara and his team were miraculously unharmed.
Witnesses described the scene as surreal: twisted metal, deflated tires, and the hum of the deployed airbags hanging in the air like a bad dream.
The only saving grace was the rapid response of the vehicle’s safety systems, which shielded Morara from what could have easily been a deadly impact.

But the accident was more than just a physical jolt — it felt like a gut punch to the rising activist’s mission.
Morara had been returning from a tour inspecting some of Kenya’s most controversial government projects — a mission he has carried out with the intensity of a man unwilling to let go of his cause.
Earlier that day, he had spoken to university students at Chuka about the decay of accountability in Kenya, warning them that their generation needed to rise and defend the country.
The speech was fiery, passionate — yet, only hours later, his life was hanging by a thread on a quiet road in Embu.
His inspection of government projects has rattled more than a few cages.
At the center of his attention was the Chogoria-Weru-Marima road, a Ksh1 billion project shrouded in mystery, with no visible work done years after the funds had supposedly been allocated.
Another project, the Kieni-Kiandege-Mworoga road, had Ksh700 million allocated but stood as a ghost of progress — an empty promise in a county where promises have run thin. Was it a coincidence that the accident happened during one of his most vocal campaigns?

Despite the fear that must have gripped him, Morara remained defiant. “I will continue this journey, no matter the hurdles,” he posted soon after the incident.
His words crackled with determination, as though the crash had only steeled his resolve. He knew the dangers, he knew the risks — but backing down was not an option.
His supporters, too, rallied around him, offering not only words of encouragement but cash donations during the very tour meant to expose corruption.

His willingness to call out high-level corruption and expose the failure of public projects has earned him enemies in dark corners, but it has also gained him a fierce following across the nation.
