The tranquil village of Kwa in Kuria West is shrouded in sorrow following the tragic death of an elderly watchman, struck by lightning during a downpour.
The incident occurred as the man was walking home from Migori town after finishing his shift as a night guard.
Witnesses recalled the harrowing scene; initially, they were unsure of the man’s identity until they recognized him by his distinctive rungu.
“At first, some residents didn’t realize who it was on the road, but later they recognized him as a guard who worked at a homestead in the area,” said Morisson Ogutu, a local resident.

Simon Adagala, a boda boda operator at Namba stage, noted that while others sought shelter from the storm, the watchman pressed on, hoping to reach home safely. “We had taken cover at nearby houses, but the man kept walking fast,” he explained.

“He didn’t take cover during the rains, and it cost him his life.”
The community is now left grappling with this unexpected loss, and the body has been taken to Migori County Referral Hospital for further arrangements.
