A 25-year-old man, Nobert Mulwo, has been arrested in Kitengela after staging his own kidnapping to extort Ksh 100,000 from his sister.
The shocking incident unfolded when Mulwo, desperate after losing his entire November salary to betting, faked an abduction and inflicted wounds on himself to appear as a victim of ruthless kidnappers.
Detectives from the DCI Crime Research and Operations unit smoked Mulwo out of Mutuku Lodgings on Friday morning, tracing him after a report was filed at Kajiado Police Station.

The report claimed he had been forcibly shoved into a Toyota Probox by two men offering him a lift.

During interrogation, it emerged that Mulwo, alongside an accomplice identified as Ndolo, had meticulously planned the scheme to manipulate his family.
Among the items recovered were Ksh.10,100 in cash, a handset used to send ransom demands, a scalpel blade, and bandages he used to dress his self-inflicted wounds for added drama.

Police are holding Mulwo and continuing investigations into the bizarre extortion attempt, with authorities urging the public to resist such desperate measures, even in financial distress.
