A dispute over a mere Kshs 200 ended in tragedy on Tuesday evening at the Garissa Lodge market in Kisumu Central Sub-County.
What began as a simple argument between two men over how to split the proceeds from the sale of a pair of safari boots escalated into violence, leaving one man dead and the other facing murder charges.
According to Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander Peter Mulai, the altercation between the two men turned deadly when 25-year-old Nicholas Otieno punched the victim on the left side of his jaw.

The force of the blow caused the victim to stumble backward, hitting his head hard on the ground.
The injured man was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, the severe head trauma proving fatal.

News of the death quickly spread, and enraged members of the public descended on Otieno, beating him severely before police intervened.
