The escapees used parts of the shattered wooden cell door to attack the guard on duty, delivering a brutal blow to his forehead before fleeing under the cover of darkness.

“The cell sentry personnel reported that the prisoners had broken the door and one of them struck him with a wooden frame before escaping,” read a police report.
