Emotions ran high at the burial of Tabitha Gatwiri, held at her parents’ home in Meru, as Kenyan celebrities began to arrive. Among the first to arrive were Kelvin Kinuthia, comedians Naomi Kuiria, and Shiphira, who were close members of Gatwiri’s inner circle.
A video shared by Kinuthia on TikTok showed the burial venue, set under a white tent with chairs neatly arranged, as guests began taking their seats.
The ceremony followed a body viewing session at the mortuary, after which a convoy of cars, including a luxurious hearse, transported Gatwiri’s body to her Meru home.
In the video, Kinuthia appeared somber, along with Naomi and Shiphira, reflecting the grief that marked the day.
The burial, after weeks of meticulous planning, is a solemn occasion to lay Gatwiri to rest, marking the end of her life that began in 1995.

Kinuthia, who had been posting heartfelt tributes to Gatwiri, expressed his deep sadness in a caption, wishing for her to “dance with angels,” accompanied by a melancholic burial song.

Later, Kinuthia shared a glimpse of the luxurious hearse that carried Gatwiri’s coffin.
The hearse, a flashy Toyota Prado with an eight-wheeled casket caravan, was seen arriving at the venue, with funeral home staff arranging flowers to lay on the white casket.
How Did Gatwiri Die?
The late comedian, who had solidified her place in Kenya’s entertainment industry, passed away on October 31st, sending shockwaves through the content creation community.
Initial reports suggested she succumbed to a short illness.
However, an autopsy conducted at the Kenyatta University Hospital revealed that her cause of death was positional asphyxiation, also known as suffocation.

The autopsy stated, “The late Gatwiri passed on from positional asphyxia with brain edema.” Brain edema occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen, causing fluids to accumulate and leading to swelling, which can result in severe brain damage or death.
