As families mourned loved ones lost in the protests, Nyamu’s remarks struck many as insensitive and out of touch.
Netizens across various social media platforms criticized the mother of three for prioritizing her social media presence over the real struggles faced by citizens.
“People lost their lives, and you’re talking about how you lost 10k followers. SHAME ON YOU, KAREN.”
Nyamu defended her comments, claiming they were made in jest and taken out of context.

She explained that her 18-minute speech had been reduced to a mere few seconds about Instagram followers, which were then blown out of proportion.
“Hehehe, but I lost 10k followers. In a whole 18-minute submission, you only got the 5 seconds on followers? Lol, such a joker,” she retorted, only fueling the public’s anger further.
