A man has stabbed his estranged wife to death in Mirimaini area of Juja, Kiambu County yesterday before attempting to take his own life.
The suspect, who was bleeding from self-inflicted slits, was arrested by police officers and taken to hospital.
In a recount from the eyewitness, the suspect approached his estranged wife who was in her neighbours house for visit and chats,he called her, pulled out a knife and a machete and began stabbing her in the neck.
Despite her attempts to seek refuge in her friend’s house, the victim was overpowered and had part of her throat slashed; she later succumbed to her injuries.
The neighbour who was with her run away for her dear life as she seek for help from other neighbours.
Nearby neighbours heard the screams and came out in large numbers to help rescue the woman but it was to late.
Male neighbours who came to rescue the woman gathered courage and hold the man tightly to stop stabbing the wife.
While still on hold the suspect attempted to kill himself but was stopped.
Reason as to why the husband stabbed his wife to death still remain unknown since the husband refused to speak.
They contacted Juja police officers who reacted fast and went to arrest the suspect.
Police officers from Juja Police Station responded to a distress call, arrested the assailant and took him to Gatundu Hospital to nurse his injuries before being transported to police cell.
Notably, The body of the deceased was moved to General Kago funeral parlour.
Jane Kinuthia, a nominated MCA in Kiambu, visited the scene and expressed concern about the rising incidence of femicide in the sub-county. She highlighted another recent mysterious killing of a woman in the same village.
Kinuthia has called for the establishment of a specialised unit within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to counter the rising cases of gender-based violence in the country.
