A convict who was slapped with a Ksh 20,000 fine for alcohol-related charges collapsed and died shortly after being rejected by prison authorities.
Tom Odiada, who had pleaded guilty to possessing alcohol, was sentenced by Makadara Law Courts and given the choice of paying the fine or serving three months in jail.
However, after being escorted to Industrial Area Prisons on October 4, Odiada was deemed “too weak and sickly” to be admitted and was returned to Huruma police station.

Tragically, the following day, Odiada collapsed in police custody, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
