The Gigiri Police Station in Westlands Sub-County, Nairobi, recorded a gunfire incident on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, between a General Service Unit (GSU) officer and two National Police Officers at the residence of South Sudan President Salva Kiir’s residence.
In the report, it happened that Police Constables Nicholas Gitimuy and Denis Okenye had been on patrol along Gigiri Road, Karura, when they came across a man seated under a tree near the perimeter wall of President Kiir’s residence.
“Information received is that the two officers on patrol came across the suspect sitting under the shade smoking bhang at the edge of (President) Salva Kiir’s residence wall. As they approached him the suspect started running away defying their order to stop. When the police officers challenged him to stop, he responded by firing at the officers whereby he shot PC Dennis Okenye on his right hip,” read the police report in part.
The National Police Service commenced their investigations and it emerged that the suspect was an officer with the GSU and named him as PC Collins Nganga. He is attached to His Excellency Salva Kiir’s residence as security. He was arrested while armed with a CESKA pistol S/No H5547.
“The injured officer PC Dennis Okenye was immediately rushed to MP-SHA hospital where he is undergoing treatment while in stable condition with bullet head lodged in his left thigh. The suspect is being held at Gigiri police station and the said pistol withdrawn from him and kept as exhibit pending ballistic analysis,” added the statement.
The incident was recorded in the Occurence Book under registration 37 of 25/02/25 at 20:30 Hours.
