Athman Mutunga, the son of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, has sadly passed away at the age of 50, following a two-month battle with an undisclosed illness.
After undergoing four surgeries at Coptic Hospital, Athman succumbed to his condition on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
He was laid to rest in Kitui County the following day, in accordance with Muslim traditions.
The passing of Athman has prompted heartfelt condolences from leaders and the legal community, with Chief Justice Martha Koome expressing her deep sympathy.

Willy Mutunga, who served as Chief Justice from 2011 to 2016, addressed a misunderstanding regarding a circulated photo, clarifying that it was not of Athman but of his other son, Alamin.
