In an unprecedented initiative aimed at addressing the debilitating effects of fistula among women, the M-Pesa Foundation has joined forces with the African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) Health Africa.
Together, they are organizing a week-long Fistula Camp at Thika Level 5 Hospital from June 7th to June 14th.
During this pivotal event, women afflicted by fistula will receive comprehensive care, including free surgery, physiotherapy, and medical counseling.
Fistula, often a consequence of obstructed or prolonged labor due to inadequate healthcare, subjects women to immense suffering, leading to low self-esteem and social stigma.
The primary goal of the camp is to empower these women, providing them with the necessary medical interventions to restore their dignity and improve their quality of life.
Led by Amref Flying Doctors, the healthcare team will not only address fistula but also identify and treat any other underlying health conditions that patients may have.

Cynthia Oningoi, a representative of Amref Flying Doctors, emphasized the importance of early intervention and urged affected women to take advantage of this opportunity for free medical services.
Additionally, awareness campaigns are being conducted across various media platforms to ensure that no woman is left behind, especially those in rural areas who are particularly vulnerable to this condition.
Fistula is a treatable condition, and by offering proper medical care and support, initiatives like the Fistula Camp play a crucial role in improving maternal health and reducing the incidence of this preventable condition.
