Bungoma residents lined up as early as 5am, eager to enter Masinde Muliro Stadium for the highly anticipated Madaraka Day celebrations.
After a long hiatus, the major national event has returned to Bungoma, drawing a massive turnout that began at dawn.
Photos shared by NTV captured long lines of people, bundled up in warm clothes against the cold morning weather, all aiming to secure front-row seats at the stadium.
This year’s celebrations, themed around agriculture and food security, come after months of preparation, including a complete renovation of the stadium.
Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo a day ago highlighted the government’s efforts to increase access to resources, reduce food production costs, and eliminate cartels to improve agricultural productivity and food security in the region.

In addition to the celebrations, Bungoma has seen significant achievements, including the successful registration of 203,310 farmers of maize, tea, sugarcane, poultry, dairy, and more, as part of the National Farmer Registration exercise aimed at enhancing the distribution of agricultural inputs and subsidized fertilizer.

The county also boasts a 96.8% transition rate of students from primary to secondary school, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the National Government Administrative Officers and the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Omollo, who led the National Celebrations Steering Committee, expressed satisfaction with the renovations at Masinde Muliro Stadium, now boasting a seating capacity of 40,000 and upgraded to a state-of-the-art facility.
These enhancements position the stadium as a premier venue for future international sporting events, contributing to the local economy and national pride.
