Bondo Police Station was attacked by a large group of protesters on the evening of July 2, 2024, leading to the serious injury of a police officer and the theft of a riot gun.
The protests, which began around noon, escalated throughout the day and reached a peak at 9:30 PM when over 1,200 protesters attempted to overrun the station with crude weapons, stones, and petrol bombs.
Efforts to disperse the crowd with tear gas proved ineffective as the protesters became more aggressive.
During the chaos, five individuals attacked Officer Joseph Tioko, who had come from Sigomere Police Station for reinforcement duties.

They robbed him of his riot gun and inflicted serious head injuries before he was rescued and rushed to Haven Hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Maxcure Hospital in Kisumu.
Anti-riot police pursued the attackers, arresting one suspect, Sostene Mvune, a 21-year-old Luo male, and recovering the stolen gun.
The search for his accomplices continues.
