In a dramatic end to her 15-year rule, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on Monday after weeks of deadly protests culminated in demonstrators storming her residence.
The military has since announced the formation of an interim government to restore order in the nation.
The unrest, which began in early July, escalated into a brutal day of violence on Sunday, resulting in nearly 100 deaths.
Despite Hasina’s attempts to quell the nationwide protests, the situation spiraled out of control, forcing her to resign and escape from the capital, Dhaka, by helicopter.

Sources close to Hasina revealed that she initially fled by motorcade before being flown out of the country. Her exact destination remains undisclosed.

In a symbolic act of defiance, some protesters destroyed a statue of Hasina’s father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s independence hero.
Before the protesters stormed the compound, Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, urged the country’s security forces to block any takeover, emphasizing the importance of upholding the constitution.
Despite this, the security forces, who had supported Hasina’s government throughout the unrest, were unable to contain the massive influx of protesters.
