Mr Michael Nyaga Muchiri has been named the new National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson. Until his appointment on Thursday morning, Mr Muchiri was the Kiambu County police commander. He takes over the office from Dr Resila Onyango who has been named the Diplomatic Police Unit commandant. Former police spokesperson Charles Owino has told off Public Service CS Justin Muturi over claims that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was involved in abductions. Mr Owino picked issues with the CS saying that it was not in order for him to make such claims as he was a civil servant appointed by President William Ruto. “The statements he made amounts to breach of trust which is bestowed to him by the President,” said Mr Owino, adding that if Mr Muturi was not willing to serve the government then it was time he resigned. Outspoken police officer Jackson Kuria Kihara alias Cop Shakur who hit headlines for joining anti-government protests in 2024 has been arrested. The officer in a statement on his official X account said that he had been arrested and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters located along Kiambu Road. “I am being taken to DCI HQ,” Shakur’s tweet read. Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County are investigating the death of their colleague who was on Wednesday found dead in a bar. Kenyans will in the next two months not be required to physically visit a police station in order to make a report. This is according to Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen who said that Kenya was in the process of digitalizing the reporting of cases and that will handle all matters that are recorded on the Occurrence Book (OB). “Beginning April 2025, you will no longer be required to visit a police station to report incidents,” Mr Murkomen said on Tuesday, January 14. Hassan Muhumed Abdi, met his death on Friday night, March 8 after an altercation with the rider over KSh 50 fare.
