The assistant chief, Richard Rotich, narrowly escaped a similar fate as his vehicle swerved to avoid a head-on collision.
Miraculously surviving, Rotich recounted the harrowing experience of finding himself submerged but managing to escape.
The accident, which occurred at Tenwek bridge on the Silibwet – Merigi road, prompted a swift response from authorities.
Mr. Musa Imamai, the Bomet Central Sub County Police Commander, confirmed the fatalities and ongoing search efforts for the missing child.

Investigations into the cause of the accident have commenced.
Rescue operations were challenging, with the submerged vehicle taking over two hours to retrieve.

Divers from the Bomet County Disaster Management unit led the efforts, eventually accessing the bodies by breaking into the vehicle’s boot.
The community, deeply affected by the tragedy, could only watch as the rescue unfolded.
Meanwhile, the lorry involved in the collision was towed to Bomet police station, while the submerged saloon vehicle remained in the river as recovery efforts continued.
