In Turkana County, specifically within Turkana Central Sub-County, an alarming incident unfolded at the Lodwar Police Station, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities.
The incident, categorized as a robbery with violence, was reported via OB no. 31/16/04/2024 at 1248 hours by Police Officer 258761 Pc Cleophas Makhapila.
Pc Makhapila, deployed on day road block duties at Mt. Kenya, recounted an altercation that occurred while manning a roadblock with fellow officers and county enforcement personnel.
According to Pc Makhapila’s report, trouble ensued when police officers delayed removing spikes at the roadblock, leading to a confrontation with a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) water bowser.
The situation escalated when a KDF officer allegedly assaulted Pc Makhapila and threatened him with his rifle, firing shots nearby.

Following the incident, Pc Makhapila promptly alerted the sub-county police commander, Samuel Boit, who mobilized patrols to locate the KDF water bowser.
Subsequently, officers spotted the water bowser heading towards Moi Garden in Lodwar town, where it was intercepted.
Upon confrontation, the driver of the water bowser brandished his AK47 rifle, prompting officers to take action. Shots were fired, leading to the driver’s surrender and the recovery of two AK47 rifles belonging to KDF officers.

Despite attempts to peacefully resolve the situation, the arrested KDF officers refused to cooperate or disclose their identities, leading to their booking as ”UNKNOWN” and placement in police custody.

The matter escalated further when a contingent of KDF officers cordoned off Lodwar Police Station, causing tension among onlookers.
However, Turkana Central Sub-County Police Commander Mr. Boit intervened, engaging with Lt. D O Okelo, who instructed his officers to de-escalate the situation.

Eventually, the tension subsided, allowing for the continuation of legal proceedings. The arrested KDF officers were held for further investigation and were to be charged with the offense of robbery with violence, under the jurisdiction of the DCI Turkana Central.
