Former police officer Linda Okello recently voiced her sentiments on the challenges faced by law enforcement personnel, emphasizing that being a police officer is no easy task.
Okello expressed her views, suggesting that Kenya should adopt a deployment system similar to that of the United States, where officers work within their respective counties.
“In the US, you work within your county. If you’re from Nairobi, you work there. If you’re from Kainuk, you serve in Kainuk. The same goes for Hola,” Okello remarked.

She highlighted the benefits of such a system, stating that it would foster a deeper sense of community and understanding among officers and residents.
Okello lamented the prevalent violence against police officers, particularly referencing recent incidents where officers have been assaulted or killed in the line of duty.
“It’s disheartening to see police being attacked like they are adversaries,” she expressed, urging for greater respect and support for law enforcement personnel.
Addressing the issue of corruption within the political sphere, Okello criticized politicians who she claims have amassed wealth at the expense of the common citizen.
“Most of these politicians have done nothing but enrich themselves while stealing from the people. Yet, they are celebrated,” she exclaimed.

While acknowledging the challenges faced by police officers, Okello also urged her former colleagues to refrain from engaging in corrupt practices or abusing their authority.
“Police officers should also avoid being corrupt. If the public does not appreciate their efforts, let them be. Don’t stoop to their level,” she advised.
Okello’s remarks come in the wake of a recent incident where an inspector of police was killed while on duty.

She criticized the oversight bodies tasked with monitoring law enforcement for failing to adequately address such incidents and instead accused them of seeking to exploit the police force for personal gain.
