Due to leaking roof and other broken equipment at the mansion,Gachagua was yet to move in.
Gachagua blamed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration for neglecting the house asserting that the move was part of plans of the Jubilee administration
He claimed the administration wanted to punish President William Ruto, who was then serving as the DP.
The Dp further alleged that President Ruto was forced to spend on utility bills using his own money.
“The official residence of the Deputy President was in bad shape when I became Deputy President. The rooftop was leaking, the borehole pump was broken down, and the house was totally in bad shape,”Said the Gachagua.
He also adds that he refused to move in because that place was inhabitable.
“I found Ruto staying in that Mansion where the roof is leaking. They had even moved to a corner of the house together with his wife,” he alleged.
In May 2023, reports indicated that Gachagua moved to his official Karen residence where he has been holding sub-Cabinet Committee meetings and engagements with diplomats.
The 10 acre plot comprises of two storey residence, an office, servant quarters and an expansive swimming pool.
Later in 2019 a Church was built inside the premises by President Ruto who was then the former Dp.
