Police in Kisii County have launched investigations following the tragic death of a hospital patient, Daniel Orare, who allegedly took his own life using a bed sheet in a hospital restroom.
Orare, who had been admitted to the hospital for over a week battling an unspecified illness, was discovered hanging from the shower tap in the facility’s toilet.
TV47 Digital reported that the bedsheet, repurposed into a noose, marked the grim scene that has since left the community in shock.
“The deceased had died by suicide using a hospital bed sheet,” read a statement from the police, confirming the tragic turn of events.

This incident marks the first in a series of three reported suicides within the country in the span of a few days, sparking concern over the rising cases of self-harm.
A Disturbing Pattern
Shortly after Orare’s death, 49-year-old Simeon Nyatuka was found hanging from a tree in Morombo village. Police revealed that Nyatuka had used a blue mosquito net to end his life.
Local residents said Nyatuka had been living in isolation after separating from his wife years ago. His body was transported to Kisii Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation as an autopsy is awaited.

The third case was reported in Mithanga village, Machakos County, where 65-year-old Paul Muoki was discovered hanging from the rafters of his home.
Police noted the absence of a suicide note at the scene, and Muoki’s body was transferred to Kathiani Level Four Hospital mortuary for post-mortem analysis.
Unfolding Concerns
As authorities scramble to understand the motives behind these tragedies, another body was found abandoned on a roadside in Maua, Meru County, near a petrol station.
