Outspoken police officer Jackson Kuria Kihara alias Cop Shakur who hit headlines for joining anti-government protests in 2024 has been arrested.
The officer in a statement on his official X account said that he had been arrested and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters located along Kiambu Road.
“I am being taken to DCI HQ,” Shakur’s tweet read.
The officer has been on the frontline in faulting the government whenever there are issues which is not a character associated with the police.
DCI sleuths kicked off a manhunt for the officer on Wednesday, January 15 and raided his home in an operation that is yet to be made public.
However, they did not succeed in arresting him as he had left his phone at home for an unknown destination.
The officers who were tasked with trailing and arresting him could later track his phone to Kamiti Maximum Prison where they rushed and arrested him.
Shakur identifies himself as some former security personnel who doubles up as a human rights activist.
During the anti-government protests led by a group that identified itself as Gen Z he defied all the odds and joined the Kenyan youths.
He was part of the youth that camped outside parliament carrying anti-government placards which targeted President William Ruto in person.
“I am doing this on behalf of a government employee who is tired of Zakayo but can’t say anything because kazi itaenda,” the placard held by Shakur read.
It is worth noting that he is currently on half pay after he was interdicted for participating in the protests.
The officer has in the past revealed that many officers follow orders even when they know that they are unlawful as they fear the sack.
