Zambian authorities have arrested two individuals accused of plotting to harm President Hakainde Hichilema using witchcraft.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga revealed on Friday that the suspects, identified as Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, and Leonard Phiri, 43, were allegedly hired by Nelson Banda, the younger brother of fugitive lawmaker Jay Banda, to carry out the sinister plot.

Jay Banda, currently on the run after escaping police custody in August 2024 while facing aggravated robbery charges, remains at large.
His brother’s alleged involvement in orchestrating this bizarre scheme has left the nation stunned.

The suspects were apprehended with an array of charms, including a live chameleon, reportedly intended for their dark ritual.
According to Hamoonga, the duo, described as practicing witchdoctors, admitted to accepting a partial payment and were promised $7,400 upon completing their mission to harm the president.
“Their intention was to use charms to harm the Head of State, His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema,” said Hamoonga.
