Panic gripped the Mombasa-Nairobi highway late last night after a matatu overturned near Maanzoni, leaving several passengers injured.
The matatu, traveling from Machakos to Nairobi, became a scene of terror when a desperate swerve to avoid colliding with another vehicle sent it careening off balance.
Eyewitnesses recounted the heart-stopping moment as the driver, in a frantic bid to prevent disaster, lost control, causing the vehicle to flip over.

“It all happened so fast; one moment, we were cruising, and the next, people were screaming as the matatu overturned,” a shaken passenger shared.

The injured were swiftly rushed to the Machakos County Referral Hospital, where medics worked tirelessly to stabilize them.
While the extent of their injuries remains unclear, no fatalities have been reported—a miracle on a stretch of road notorious for deadly crashes.
Athi River Sub-county Police Commander Phyllis Muthoni confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
