George Ruto, son of President William Ruto, has once again made headlines in the vibrant world of Nairobi’s matatu culture, this time splashing a whopping KSh 8.7 million to acquire one of the city’s most coveted public service vehicles.
The matatu, dubbed ‘Matrix,’ had gained a strong following while operating along Nairobi’s busy Route 33 in Eastlands.
However, after the purchase, it has been reassigned to the Ngong’ Road route, much to the excitement of matatu enthusiasts.

George Ruto’s growing influence in the matatu business comes as no surprise.
The young businessman is already known for owning ‘Manifest,’ another popular Nairobi matatu that has garnered significant attention.
His latest purchase of ‘Matrix’ is reportedly part of a strategic move ahead of the much-anticipated matatu awards.
The awards showcase Nairobi’s most creative and flashy matatus, with Ruto clearly aiming to dominate the competition.
According to Brian Wanyama, a well-known matatu culture influencer, George’s decision to purchase ‘Matrix’ was fueled by his passion for the iconic “Ma3” culture that defines Nairobi’s streets.
“The deal was finalized last week,” Wanyama confirmed, revealing that the black and green-themed vehicle has now switched its base to Ongata Rongai.
