A collision between a fuel tanker and a truck in the Agaie area of Niger State resulted in an inferno that claimed the lives of at least 48 people.
The devastating accident occurred on Sunday, sending shockwaves throughout the north-central region of Nigeria.
The truck was reportedly carrying both passengers and cattle, which were tragically caught in the blaze.
BBC reports that emergency response officials, led by Abdullahi Baba-Arab, the director-general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, have been tirelessly working on search-and-rescue operations.

Baba-Arab confirmed that alongside the human fatalities, more than 50 cattle were burned alive in the explosion.
Initially, 30 bodies were discovered at the crash site, but subsequent searches revealed an additional 18 victims who were also consumed by the flames.
