The Rarieda community in Siaya County is in mourning after a tragic mine collapse killed seven people. The incident occurred mid-morning and severely injured four other artisanal miners who were inside the mine.
Siaya Police Commander Mr. Kleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse.

Family members were called to the scene during the rescue mission, as their presence is culturally believed to expedite the search process.
A resident, Mr. Sam Olielo, expressed the community’s grief, noting the personal loss of his brother and highlighting the widespread impact on the village.

The survivors were taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital, while the deceased were transported to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
