At least five people lost their lives early Saturday morning in a tragic accident involving a matatu and a truck along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway near Salgaa.
The incident occurred at around 3 am when a Toyota Hiace matatu, operated by Eldoret Cross Roads Shuttle Sacco, collided with the rear of an unidentified trailer.

According to police reports, the matatu was traveling from Eldoret towards Nakuru when it rammed into the back of the trailer, which subsequently fled the scene.
The force of the impact resulted in the immediate death of four passengers, with a fifth succumbing to their injuries at the hospital.
Eight other passengers sustained serious injuries and were quickly transported to Nakuru County and Referral Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Nakuru County morgue, where they await identification and postmortem examinations.
The matatu’s wreckage has been towed to the Salgaa police station for further inspection, as authorities continue their search for the trailer involved in the accident.
